RUTH | CATONE | GOULDING
Ruth|Catone|Goulding partners with collectors in meaningful and lasting dialogue, and provides the access, research, and expertise necessary to build collections of enduring value for both new and experienced collectors.
The firm foregrounds the passions, interests, objectives, and ambitions of our collectors and frames their purposeful engagement with the art world. We are unencumbered by any other agenda or financial interest.
ACCESS
Our collector relationships often last decades. As well, we have cultivated deep, long-term relationships with offering agents, from large multinational galleries to young emerging gallerists, and from seasoned public auction professionals to discreet private collectors and dealers. These collaborations—bolstered by our unimpeachable reputation as honest, thoughtful, and diligent partners and our meticulous coverage of the global market—provide expansive, leveraged access for our collectors in a competitive environment.
RESEARCH
For over two decades, our firm has compiled an unrivaled database of 80,000 privately offered artworks, an exclusive and proprietary dataset that enables us to contextualize the market well beyond publicly accessible auction records. This market data, coupled with our 7,000 volume library, uniquely positions us to build the matrix of art historical and financial analysis essential for well-informed decisions on both the secondary and primary markets.
EXPERTISE
Information lacks value and depth unless coupled with the expertise to distinguish long-term relevance from fleeting trend. In a field rife with noise and distraction, our expertise, earned though decades of market experience, sustained research, and trusted collaborative relationships, guides our collectors to significant works and grounded decisions. We add nuanced and detailed interpretation in evaluating offerings tailored to the interests and needs of our clients, as well as candid insight into the subjective, shifting, and often opaque indicators of critical and financial value in a dynamic and volatile arena.
INTEGRATION
We work with our collectors to embed collecting activities within their larger network of professional endeavors, personal relationships, and generational assets. Our discreet, long-view approach indentifies, reinforces and augments the web of curatorial, personal, and relational meaning that informs our collectors’ interest in art. Our strategic counsel aims to elevate the collection as a vital component of our clients’ cultural engagement, ensuring that its creation represents more than a series of transactions. Judgments about enduring value for our collectors transcend consideration only of financial worth; our work extends to partnering with our collectors and their teams on philanthropic goals and commitments, trust and estate planning, and personal business ambitions and relationships.
MANAGEMENT
The enduring value of a collection lies not only in the conceptual and analytic energy involved in its formation, but in the continual custodianship of its objects. We are a full-service advisory covering the conceptual and technical aspects of collection building and management, assisting our collectors and their offices in management of the full complement of third-party resources necessary to protect, present, and maintain a collection's value over time. These services include databasing, shipping, insurance, installation, storage, conservation and materials analysis, museum loans, disaster preparedness, legal affairs, and public relations.
